Q: Did he [Amir] have a connection to Bureau Jeugdzorg? (Youthcare Bureau=Justice Department)
A: Yes
Q: Could you elaborate a bit?
A: Yes. I’m divorced from my husband. We used to live in Alphen a/d Rijn. I came to Maastricht because of the children. Bureau Jeugdzorg said to me: ”you are not going to take good care of your children”
Q: They just said that?
A: Yes. My husband is a little hard to understand for the Dutch people. But I don’t get it. We are Somalian. We harm no one. We are married, the husband stands above the wife [is head of the family].
Bureau Jeugdzorg told me: ”if you stay with your husband, you can’t see your children anymore.” So that’s why I came to Maastricht.
Q: Were you threatened with the fact that if you stayed with your husband, you would lose your children?
A: Yes Bureau Jeugzorg told me that.
Q: How did you feel about that?
A: Yes…difficult. My children and my husband is better, but if I can’t see my children anymore, that’s hard. I can’t live without my children.
Q: So then you had to choose
A: I chose for my children not for my husband. I chose my children and that ‘s why I came to Maastricht.
